Have you been at the receiving end of being told what you're working to achieve is impossible or not worth the effort or time you're giving it? ⁠

I have during our debt-free journey. ⁠
⁠
If the person had been a stranger or someone that barely knew me, I'd have shrugged it off; in this instance, it was family. Someone that knew that when I set my mind to something, I'll accomplish it and that trying to talk me out of it or saying anything negative usually results in me shifting into overdrive to prove them wrong. ⁠

What I know now is that the things that were important enough to me to go after them were worth my time and effort regardless of anyone else's opinion and that the problem was not with me, but the person who was criticizing me. Just because they don't believe it's possible for themselves or is something they don't want, doesn't mean it is for anyone else. ⁠

#Mindset is everything in going after your goals and dreams. Don't let someone's negativity or scarcity mindset derail you!⁠

I'm going to say this as kindly as possible: Just because you make X (insert take-home pay for X) does NOT mean you should spend all of X.⁠

If the pandemic has served any purpose in terms of what we should learn from it, it's that we need to have our finances in order because the government cannot continue to bail everyone out of the financial situation they're in (while $3200/person was a start at assisting, it dId not begin to touch the debt loads some have or even cover the household expenses of some families on a monthly basis).⁠

As one of my money mentors, Warren Buffett, has said, "Do not save what is left after spending; instead spend what is left after saving."⁠

I know, this is easier said than done, but it can be done.⁠

"I can't afford to save" - that's the common rebuttal.⁠
⁠
No one is saying that you can afford to right this second.⁠
⁠
But here's a thought: Can you afford NOT to save?⁠

We all want the fastest route to achieving whatever it is that we want. ⁠

Feeling fatigued? Easy is to just caffeinate and push through. Hard is to take the time to figure out what is going on and potentially making dietary changes and/or taking a supplement or medication to feel better.⁠
⁠
Want to lose weight? Easy is to give in to a product that claims it can help you lose weight - but it may not be the healthiest or safest option. Hard is taking the time to make lifestyle changes - exercising, eating more nutritious foods, and decreasing stress. ⁠
⁠
Want to retire on time or early without worrying about how you'll pay bills or for future medical expenses? Easy is to hope you can make it rich on a Wall Street Bets tip, buying a winning lottery ticket, or hoping you'll inherit a large sum of money. Hard is starting early, saving and investing often, and riding out market fluctuations. Hard is doing your own research on what you invest in.⁠

There is not a shortcut to better health (despite what many products may claim) just like there is not a shortcut to becoming and staying financially independent. We have to put in the hard work, have the right mindset, and not give up when we hit a roadblock - hard is staying the course. ⁠

Most want easy. Most don't want to put in the time, energy, and effort because modern society has succeeded in its subliminal messaging that we should pursue easy options. ⁠
⁠
Be different. Put in the hard work and the time now to show everyone that something is possible - whether that is paying off debt, hitting a savings goal, having enough money to retire far earlier than age 65, losing weight, or overcoming/reversing a medical diagnosis.⁠
