Lemme make everyone uncomfortable.
I’m gonna talk about money for a bit.
Call it a #moneymonologue if you will.
If you know me IRL or followed me elsewhere online, you may have seen the periodic post on our #debtfreejourney. So clearly this isn’t something I’m hesitant to step on a soapbox about.
Here’s the thing. Talking about money is supposedly taboo.
Why?
I get not talking politics and sex; the former can seriously rile people up and fracture relationships, especially in our current cultural climate, and the latter, well, yeah, that can be awkward depending on the specific topic within that subject matter & who you’re talking with.
But money …
What on earth is so dang taboo about money?
Long story short, not talking about it benefits someone else [aka your employer, the people you’re making debt payments to, financial institutions, the government, etc].
Talking about money should be encouraged. You can decide how comfortable you are discussing specific topics. But …talking money is how we get on a level playing field with salaries. Talking money is how we find accountability partners to pay off debt and hit savings goals. Talking money is how we find out about tools to accelerate goals that need money to happen. Talking about money can minimize marital problems.
Not talking about money hurts us all – especially females.
Thinking that we as females are incapable of understanding aspects of money matters hurts both our current selves as well as our future selves. Think about future you. Is future you worth what you have envisioned?
The only way that vision of future you will happen is if you go out on a limb to learn and do the uncomfortable things. The only thing holding back future you’s goals & ambitions is the you of today’s imposter syndrome situation. You say or think you can’t do/understand/accomplish, so you don’t even try. You don’t ask. You don’t take the time to learn so you can give a middle finger to that freaking voice in your head playing the role of Negative Nellie.
So, I’m going to start talking about it more – here on the blog as well as on Instagram. Interested in that discussion & learning more? Follow me @cee.your.financials on Instagram to share my posts!
[Money monologues are my tough love posts … topics I discuss in #MM posts are topics I’m more than willing to discuss with others one-on-one and help guide individuals on where to find additional information in order to make more informed money decisions.]
